Balayage vs. highlights: which is right for you?

Both balayage and highlights add dimension and brightness to your hair — but they work in fundamentally different ways, and the right choice depends on your lifestyle, natural hair color, and how much maintenance you want.
Highlights are applied using foils to create consistent, evenly spaced sections of lightened hair. The result is a uniform, high-contrast look that grows out with a visible line of demarcation. They typically need a touch-up every 6–8 weeks to maintain that crisp look.
Balayage is a freehand painting technique where color is applied to the surface of the hair in sweeping motions. The result is a soft, sun-kissed gradient that grows out naturally — with no harsh regrowth line. Most clients can go 3–4 months between visits.
If you want low maintenance with a natural finish, balayage is almost always the right choice. If you prefer a more polished, defined look with consistent lightness throughout, highlights deliver that precision.
The best outcomes come from a consultation. We look at your natural base, skin tone, and face shape before recommending a technique — often the most flattering result is a combination of both.
